The idea for an ancient altar in the snowy mountains came to me on a train ride home. The idea is very Skyrim and Witcher 3 Skellige-esque with a lot more color. I wanted to do a stylized environment project so I started with some concept art with a loosely painted look.

The first piece I finished was the scythe to go in the cloaked statues hands, I originally did not make the texture stylized for it. After completing the scythe I made the reaper statue to go with it, modeling the statue around the scythe.

From there I started working on the main altar which I wanted to bring directly into Unreal Engine to speed up the process and rendering. I sculpted the altar and the rest of the pieces on the platform in ZBrush then brought them into Substance Painter to texture. I set up a basic render in Unreal to get some nice shots of the textures.
